Counting in 2's

I am learning to skip count in 2's.  This will be a quicker way to count up objects.

" I can skip count in 2's so I can skip some numbers." said Daniel

Reading Eggs

I am learning to make the first and last sounds so I can work out the word for myself.  Reading Eggs helps to reinforce my learning.


" Reading Eggs helps me by telling me all the words so that I can know how to spell them." said Daniel.

Acrostic poem

I am learning how to write an acrostic poem.  I know that I start each sentence with a letter of the subject.  I wrote about myself. 

"Finger spaces are the tricky part. I think I can remember fullstops and some capital letters. I can some by myself." Daniel

Bird pillow

For our Art Exhibition this year we learnt how to sketch a bird.  The final drawing was transferred onto calico and dye was added.  The bird was glued onto a pillow that Mrs Scott and Mrs Worsfold had sewn.  Don't they look great!

Daniel said, " I have to put the capital at the beginning of the sentence and do the finger spaces and remember the full stops all the time."

I am learning to sound out 3 letter words.

I am learning to say the first, middle and last sound in a word and then blend the sounds together to write the word.  This can help me in my reading and my writing.

"I can sound out my words and I can robot the words." said Daniel

I am learning to recognise teen numbers

I am learning to count and write numerals to 20.  I am learning to say the number before and after. I am also learning to write the teen numbers correctly.

" I can read out the teen numbers.  I can write up to nearly 30." said Daniel

Mrs Worsfold said," Your Mum and Dad were very impressed with all the work you have been doing in Room 3. What a great job you did as the teacher!"

I am learning to make the beginning sounds

I am learning to make the beginning sounds in unknown words.  I need to get my mouth ready to make the sound and this activity helps me remember.

"I can look at the start because I can see what it says." said Daniel

We are learning to write for an audience and publish quality work to share.

"I like my buddy because he is nice to me."

I am learning to order numbers to 10

I can put the numbers in order from 1-10.  We will be working on number order and numerals to 20 next.

"I can put my numbers in order." said Daniel

Elm Party 50th Birthday Party

We launched our Celebration Inquiry with a huge party for Elm Park School. This year our school will turn 50! We had a great day with our school friends and our whanau!

Daniel said, My mom was at work, but she came to the party. She helped with the bubbles and had some of my cookie. I love my mom."

I am learning to form my numerals correctly.

I am learning to write my numbers around the right way.  I am able to write up to 6 correctly but I need to remember to write my 2 and 3 the other way.

Daniel said," I was trying to do my numbers."

I am learning to use the illustrations to help me.

I am learning to use the illustrations to help me read the story.
I am learning to talk about what is happening in the illustrations.

Daniel said, " I pointing at the words. I am learning to read."

I am learning water skills.

I am learning to enter and exit the pool safely.

I am learning to glide on my front with a flutter board.

I am learning to float on my back with and without a board.

I am learning to manage myself and get changed independently.

The whole class got a lot quicker at getting ready!
